The stratigraphic distribution of Cobalt (Co) shows some variation in the coal beds of West Virginia. Coal beds of the Middle and Lower Pennsylvanian show low and variable cobalt abundances. The coals of the Upper Pennsylvanian exhibit the lowest average cobalt.
