Dinosaurs: Stegosaurus

This replica is cast from one of the best Stegosaurus skulls ever found. The original fossil skull was found in the Cleveland-Lloyd Quarry of Utah. Stegosaurus was a large herbivore with two rows of bony plates from neck to tail. The tail was tipped with large spikes used in defense against aggressive carnivores. Stegosaurus was up to 30 feet long, 9 feet high at the hip, and weighed up to 4 tons. Stegosaurus lived during the Jurassic Period (about 170 million years ago) in Colorado, Wyoming, and Utah. The sedimentary rocks in West Virginia are too old to contain dinosaur remains.
