Stratigraphic Distribution of Bromine (Br)

The stratigraphic distribution of Bromine (Br) shows that coals in the Lower and Middle Pennsylvanian contained 20-40 ppm Br with a sharp decrease in Br content above the Bakerstown coal to less than 15 ppm in the Elk Lick, Pittsburgh, Redstone, Sewickley, Waynesburg and Washington coals. Highest individual Br values occurred most frequently (9 of 18 samples) in the Sewell coal.
