The histogram of bromine values in all West Virginia coal beds shows
a somewhat normal distribution with a mean of 23.88 ppm (± 11.47
ppm) on a whole coal basis. A maximum Br content of 67.00 ppm was
only moderately higher than the mean. Bromine did not correlate with
ash yield, total sulfur, pyritic sulfur or most other trace elements.
Bromine in 139 samples correlated slightly (r = +0.6442) only with chlorine
(Cl).
