The histogram of whole coal chlorine in all West Virginia coal beds shows a random distribution with a mean of 959 ppm (± 745 ppm) on a whole coal basis.  The maximum Cl content was 8150 ppm in an isolated sample of the Sewell coal.  Five of the highest 10 coals in Cl were the Sewell, and 3 were Eagle.  Chlorine did not correlate with ash yield  and correlated only with bromine (Br) (r = +0.6442).
