Trace Elements in West Virginia Coals
Holmium (Ho) Summary Statistics
Holmium was detected in 47 of 546 samples analyzed. Holmium
in West Virginia coals averaged 0.52 ppm (± 0.27 ppm) with a histogram
showing an irregular distribution with a tail of higher values. A maximum
Ho value of 1.419 ppm was noted in a bench of the Winifrede coal.
With the small number of samples Ho correlated slightly with ash yield
and other rare earth elements especially erbium (Er), dysprosium (Dy) and
gadolinium (Gd) present in monazite.
