Stratigraphic Distribution of Molybdenum (Mo)

The stratigraphic distribution of Molybdenum (Mo) shows a distinct abundance trend with most coals containing less than 2-4 ppm on a whole coal basis. Coals of the upper Allegheny Group and the uppermost Conemaugh and Monongahela Groups contained slightly higher average Mo, with three thin and generally coals of the Conemaugh (Brush Creek, Bakerstown and Harlem) containing high Mo concentrations on a whole coal basis (see cautionary note page).
