Trace Elements in West Virginia Coals
Neodymium
(Nd) Summary Statistics
Neodymium averaged 8.65 ppm (± 5.57 ppm) in West Virginia
coals with a histogram showing a near normal distribution with a tail toward
higher values and a maximum value of 41.40 ppm in a bench of the No. 2
Gas coal. Neodymium correlated poorly with ash yield and ash related
elements such as vanadium (V), zirconium (Zr), chromium (Cr), thorium (Th),
lithium (Li), scandium (Sc), lead (Pb) and gallium (Ga). Neodymium also
correlated with several rare earth elements present in monazite,
especially gadolinium (Gd), dysprosium (Dy), erbium (Er), cerium
(Ce), europium (Eu), samarium (Sm) and lanthanum (La) plus yttrium
(Y).
