Trace Elements in West Virginia Coals
The
geographic distribution of whole coal lead content shows that regions of
southern West Virginia have coals containing more lead than northern West
Virginia. Lead contents of 10-30 ppm are in areas where Allegheny
and upper Kanawha coals are mined in south central West Virginia, and lowest
lead contents are in regions of northern and north central West Virginia
where coals of the Monongahela Group are mined, but low lead content coals
are also distributed throughout the state.
