WVGES Trace Elements in West Virginia Coals

Click Here To Go To Trace Elements Framed Home Page Beryllium (Be)

Click on map for larger viewHighest beryllium (Be) contents (>15 ppm) occurred in eastern Boone County with contents greater than 9 ppm confined to the southern West Virginia coalfield.  Low beryllium coals occurred throughout the state, and all northern West Virginia coals were low in Be (<3 ppm).  These geographic distributions reflect the stratigraphic trend for highest Be in Kanawha Formation coals and lower Be contents in Monongahela Group coals.
