Beryllium abundances in all West Virginia coal beds show a skewed
distribution with a mean of 2.57 ppm (± 2.04 ppm) on a whole coal
basis. Maximum Be content was 24.72 ppm in a bench of the Winifrede
coal. Beryllium did not correlate with ash yield, total sulfur, pyritic
sulfur or most other trace elements with a slight correlation (r = +0.6100)
with yttrium (Y).
