Trace Elements in West Virginia Coals
Trace Elements in West Virginia Coals
 High
(>12 ppm ) germanium content coals are distributed throughout the state.
In northern West Virginia the high Ge coals were Allegheny and Conemaugh
group coals evident in the stratigraphic distribution,
while southern coalfield samples were from a variety of coals. Six of eleven
of the Bakerstown coal samples, 2 of 3 Brush Creek and 2 of 3 Harlem samples
were >10 ppm Ge (see cautionary notes
page).  Moderate and low Ge coals were distributed throughout
the state.
